Metro line 2 closed between Barbès and Père Lachaise until 25 October: what it means and how to keep track of Paris works
From 19 to 25 October, no line 2 trains run between Barbès-Rochechouart and Père Lachaise; a replacement bus covers the gap. Other closures planned this autumn, and where to check them.

From Monday 19 October to Sunday 25 October 2026 inclusive, no trains run on Paris metro line 2 between Barbès - Rochechouart and Père Lachaise. The interruption lasts all day, on all seven days. According to the Ville de Paris, the reason is track renovation on the line 2 viaduct. A replacement bus (bus de remplacement) serves the closed stations.
Which stations are closed
Seven stations sit inside the closed section: La Chapelle, Stalingrad, Jaurès, Colonel Fabien, Belleville, Couronnes and Ménilmontant. The rest of the line keeps running in two pieces: trains from Nation go as far as Père Lachaise (change there for line 3), and trains from Porte Dauphine go as far as Barbès - Rochechouart. Both act as temporary end stations.
If your usual trip crosses this section, it is worth allowing extra time: the bus travels on the streets with the rest of the traffic, and switching from train to bus and back adds minutes at each end.
This is not a strike or a breakdown
For newcomers it helps to tell two kinds of interruption apart. A strike or an incident happens suddenly, and you find out on the day. Planned works (travaux) are announced in advance: this closure was already listed on the Ville de Paris page at the end of September. That means you can plan around it — move a meeting, pick a different route, warn your employer ahead of time.
This closure falls during the autumn school holidays (vacances de la Toussaint). And it is not the only one: a whole series of closures is planned in Paris this autumn.
What else is closing this autumn
The same Ville de Paris page lists other planned works:
- Line 4: Saint-Michel station is closed from 14 September to 19 December 2026 inclusive.
- Line 6: the whole line is closed all day on Sundays 8 and 22 November; replacement buses are planned.
- Line 8: trains do not stop at République from 22 July 2026 until April 2027.
- Line 10: fully closed on Tuesday 27 October and Wednesday 28 October from 22:00.
- Line 13: closed until noon on several Sundays between 3 May and 13 December 2026; the page does not give the exact dates.
- RER A: from 16 to 29 October inclusive, from 21:45, no trains between La Varenne - Chennevières and Boissy-Saint-Léger.
Where to check
- The Ville de Paris page on works in the metro, tram and RER — a combined list of planned closures by line. When this post was prepared it showed a last update of 29/09/2026, so it is worth cross-checking it with the operator before you travel.
- The RATP website and app (the infos trafic section for each line) — that is where you see the line's current status.
A useful habit for daily commuters: once a week, look at the works list for your own lines. A planned closure you learn about in advance costs you one change of route; one you discover on the platform costs you a late arrival.
A common mistake
The Ville de Paris page does not say which tickets are accepted on the replacement bus, or whether you can transfer from it to the metro without a new ticket. Do not rely on guesswork: if you travel on single tickets rather than a Navigo pass, check on the RATP website or with a station agent before boarding.
